So my not-very-old Intuos died for real last week. Not wanting to buy another, and since Wacoms are all that's available locally in stores, I poked around online and found a Genius 8 by 6 for $50. That's half as big again as the Intuos, for one fifth the price. It's missing some features the intuos had, but none of those were features I actually used. Yaaay! It seems like a nice tablet, works well with Painter, Photoshop, and Gimp. The larger size is interesting to work with- I have to change the way I sit so I have more room to move my arm. The pen is fine, I'm really not picky about that kind of thing. The mouse is perhaps the best mouse

I've been chatting in the forums, and there's some interest in trading ATCs, which is not something I like to turn down, so I'm going to try to organize a swap!
